One way to overcome this problem is to sacrifice accuracy for clarity. Your friend could ask you to be at the airport at 12:01 am on april 13 or, if the following midnight is meant, at 11:59 pm on april 13.

Alternatively, the 24-hour format could be used. Here, 0:00 refers to midnight at the beginning of the day while 24:00 is midnight at the end of the day. From 1:00 pm to midnight, add 12 hours.

What do AM and PM stand for?
Some countries, including the US, canada, and australia, use the 12-hour clock format including am and pm. What do these abbreviations mean? Is midnight am or pm?
12-hour clock at noon: 12 am or 12 pm?
Two 12-hour periods
The 12-hour system divides the 24 hours of a day into two periods lasting 12 hours each. The first 12-hour period is designated as am. It runs from midnight to noon. The second period, marked pm, covers the 12 hours from noon to midnight.
The abbreviations am and pm derive from latin:
- AM = ante meridiem: before noon
- PM = post meridiem: after noon
Using numbers from 1 to 12, followed by am or pm, the 12-hour clock system identifies all 24 hours of the day. For example, 5 am is early in the morning, and 5 pm is late in the afternoon; 1 am is one hour after midnight, while 11 pm is one hour before midnight.
Ante meridiem is commonly denoted as AM, am, a.M., or A.M.; post meridiem is usually abbreviated PM, pm, p.M., or P.M. Like many other sources, timeanddate.Com uses am and pm, but the other variants are equally correct and widely used.
Midnight and noon: AM or PM?
The main weakness of the 12-hour system is a widespread confusion about which abbreviation should be used for noon and midnight: neither moment can logically be identified as before noon (am) or after noon (pm). For example, the moment of midnight occurs precisely 12 hours after noon on the previous day and 12 hours before noon on the following day.
However, most digital clocks and most sources, including timeanddate.Com, designate midnight as 12 am and noon as 12 pm. Although the precise moment of noon falls in neither category, the hour succeeding it, from 12:00:01 to 12:59:59, is clearly after noon.
To avoid any confusion when referring to the precise moment of noon or midnight, we recommend using the designations 12 noon and 12 midnight instead.
Midnight confusion
Another source of confusion is the lack of a date designator in the 12-hour system, making it impossible to logically identify a correct moment in time when only a date and 12:00 am (midnight) is provided.
Imagine being asked to pick up a friend at the airport at 12:00 am on april 13. Would you go there at midnight between april 12 and april 13? Or 24 hours later?

Converting 12-hour to 24-hour format
A 24-hour clock, sometimes referred to as military time, states the time according to the number of hours that have passed since midnight. Starting at midnight, hours are numbered from 0 to 24, removing the need for designations like am and pm. For example, at 23:00, 23 hours have passed since the beginning of the current day.
To convert am or pm time to the 24-hour format, use these rules:
From midnight to 12:59 am, subtract 12 hours.
12:49 am = 0:49 (12:49 – 12)
From 1 am to noon, do nothing.
11:49 am = 11:49
From 12:01 pm to 12:59 pm, do nothing.
12:49 pm = 12:49
From 1:00 pm to midnight, add 12 hours.
1:49 pm = 13:49 (1:49 + 12)
Here's how to convert time on a 24-hour clock to the 12-hour system:
From 0:00 (midnight) to 0:59, add 12 hours and use am.
0:49 = 12:49 am (0:49 + 12)
From 1:00 to 11:59, just add am after the time.
11:49 = 11:49 am
From 12:00 to 12:59, just add pm after the time.
12:49 = 12:49 pm
From 13:00 to 0:00, subtract 12 hours and use pm.
13:49 = 1:49 pm (13:49 - 12)
Where is the 12-hour format used?
Most countries around the world today use the 24-hour system. However, the 12-hour format, including am and pm, is officially used in a number of countries, including the united states, canada (except québec), australia, new zealand, and the philippines.
Why does the day have 24 hours?
The egyptians are thought to be responsible for dividing the day into 24 equal parts. One account suggests that this custom evolved because the egyptians commonly used the base 12, counting the 3 joints in their fingers, not including the thumb.

According to the new york times, the phrase it is what it is appeared as early as an 1949 article by J.E. Lawrence in the nebraska state journal. Lawrence used the phrase when describing the difficulty faced during frontier-era life in nebraska:
“new land is harsh, and vigorous, and sturdy. It scorns evidence of weakness. There is nothing of sham or hypocrisy in it. It is what it is, without apology.”
It is what it is picked up steam in the 21st century. A 2004 USA today article by gary mihoces, titled “it is what it is,” pointed out that the phrase had become popular in sports about losses. Mihoces cited over a dozen examples of athletes and coaches using the phrase in that year alone.

It is what it is was noted in politics in 2004, when, according to the new york times, president george W. Bush responded to an aide telling him his opponent john kerry was leading the polls with, “it is what it is.”
Besides sports and politics, it is what it is has also seen exhaustive use in business, the military, and psychology. It’s also titled songs and even a 2001 film. Throughout these contexts, it is what it is is used as a kind of verbal shrug signaling resigned acceptance of an unchangeable situation.

What does OG mean—and where does it come from?
He's not your everyday-type prankster.
As far as internet slang goes, “OG” is on the older end of the spectrum. If you haven’t caught on just yet to phrases like “he’s the OG” or “that was so OG,” it’s safe to say you’re a little behind. But enough dragging you—what is OG, and what does OG mean in context?
What does OG mean?
According to urban dictionary's most popular definition, OG is a simple abbreviation that "used to mean original gangster." it has since been further co-opted to mean simply "original" or "old school."

OG history
Rapper ice-T definitely didn't invent the terminology for OG, but he might be the first person you reference.
In mainstream culture, calling something or someone OG or O.G. Dates back to the early '90s. Ice-T released his fourth studio album, O.G. Original gangster in 1991. The album peaked at number 15 on the billboard 200 chart and is ice-T's most successful record to date.
In the record's title song, "O.G. Original gangster," ice-T provides probably the best OG definition to date:
Still, to describe something as OG dates back much further than ice-T. Another popular OG reference point is the original gangsters, like al capone, bugs moran, owney madden, and other bootleggers and mobsters of the prohibition era.

According to dictionary.Com, the term also began appearing in the 1970s in reference to the crips, a los angeles gang. Members also used "OG" when speaking about older members.
You might also hear someone referencing O.G. When talking about strains of weed. OG kush is a popular strain of marijuana both for regular stoners and even those who have limited knowledge of weed strains. According to wikileaf, the strain also draws its name from "original gangster," due to its "status as an old-school building block strain." though some interpretations refer to OG kush as "ocean grown," in reference to its origins on the coast of california.

Red pill
What does red pill mean?
Red pill refers to (becoming enlightened to) the truth about reality, especially a truth that is difficult to accept or exposes disillusions.
Online, red pill is especially used among anti-feminist and white supremacist groups to refer to "waking up" to the truth that women and liberal politics are oppressing men and white people.

Where does red pill come from?
Red pill comes from the popular and influential 1999 sci-fi action film, the matrix. There’s a scene early on in the movie in which the main character, neo, is offered two pills: a red one and a blue one. The red pill represents an awakening, but one that could be difficult and painful. Neo’s world will be changed uncomfortably if he takes the red pill, but he’ll be made aware of the truth of the world. The blue pill represents comfort and security. If he takes the blue pill, he’ll continue to live in blissful ignorance.
The concept has a precedent in the 1990 science fiction film total recall. In that film, one character offers another a red pill, said to be a symbol of his “desire to return to reality.” there’s no blue pill presented, however.
Red pill and blue pill have become slang, respectively, for accepting truth even though it’s difficult, or rejecting it to cling to a comfortable falsehood.
A more specific, and controversial, use of the term comes from anti-feminist and far-right groups online, many of whom are extremist and misogynistic. In 2012, the reddit community the red pill was founded around the principle that it is men, rather than women, who are oppressed by a society. Taking the red pill, here, is seeing this anti-feminist “truth.”
Gaining prominence during the 2016 presidential election of donald trump, the alt-right—which sometimes overlaps with men’s rights groups— also adopted red pill. In this context, taking the red pill is seeing the truth that white nationalism is under threat from such things as socialism, feminism, immigration, social justice, and other aspects associated with liberal politics.
In may 2020, tech entrepreneur elon musk tweeted about taking the red pill; donald trump’s daughter and adviser, ivanka trump, positively replied. Due to close association of red pill‘s with anti-feminism and white supremacy, the tweets notably caused confusion and controversy.
What does it mean that jesus fulfilled the law, but did not abolish it?
Question: "what does it mean that jesus fulfilled the law, but did not abolish it?"
Answer: jesus said, вђњdo not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the law until everything is accomplishedвђќ (matthew 5:17–18). This important statement of our lord gives us insight into his mission and the character of godвђ™s word.
Jesusвђ™ declaration that he came to fulfill the law and the prophets, not to abolish them, obviously contains two statements in one. There is something jesus did and something he did not do. At the same time, jesus emphasized the eternal nature of the word of god.
Jesus goes out of his way to promote the authority of the law of god. He did not come to abolish the law, regardless of what the pharisees accused him of. In fact, jesus continues his statement with a commendation for those who teach the law accurately and hold it in reverence: вђњtherefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heavenвђќ (matthew 5:19).
Note the qualities that jesus attributes to the word of god, referenced as вђњthe law and the prophetsвђќ: 1) the word is everlasting; it will outlast the natural world. 2) the word was written with intent; it was meant to be fulfilled. 3) the word possesses plenary authority; even the smallest letter of it is established. 4) the word is faithful and trustworthy; вђњeverythingвђќ it says will be accomplished. No one hearing jesusвђ™ words in the sermon on the mount could doubt his commitment to the scriptures.
Consider what jesus did not do in his ministry. In matthew 5:17, jesus says that he did not come to abolish the law and the prophets. In other words, jesusвђ™ purpose was not to abrogate the word, dissolve it, or render it invalid. The prophets will be fulfilled; the law will continue to accomplish the purpose for which it was given (see isaiah 55:10–11).
Next, consider what jesus did do. Jesus says that he came to fulfill the law and the prophets. In other words, jesusвђ™ purpose was to establish the word, to embody it, and to fully accomplish all that was written. Вђњchrist is the culmination of the lawвђќ (romans 10:4). The predictions of the prophets concerning the messiah would be realized in jesus; the holy standard of the law would be perfectly upheld by christ, the strict requirements personally obeyed, and the ceremonial observances finally and fully satisfied.
Jesus christ fulfilled the prophets in that, in his first coming alone, he fulfilled hundreds of prophecies concerning himself (e.G., matthew 1:22; 13:35; john 19:36; luke 24:44). Jesus christ fulfilled the law in at least two ways: as a teacher and as a doer. He taught people to obey the law (matthew 22:35–40; mark 1:44), and he obeyed the law himself (john 8:46; 1 peter 2:22). In living a perfect life, jesus fulfilled the moral laws; in his sacrificial death, jesus fulfilled the ceremonial laws. Christ came not to destroy the old religious system but to build upon it; he came to finish the old covenant and establish the new.
Jesus came not to destroy the law and the prophets but to fulfill them. In fact, the ceremonies, sacrifices, and other elements of the old covenant were вђњonly a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselvesвђќ (hebrews 10:1). The tabernacle and temple were вђњholy places made with hands,вђќ but they were never meant to be permanent; they were but вђњcopies of the true thingsвђќ (hebrews 9:24, ESV). The law had a built-in expiration date, being filled as it was with вђњexternal regulations applying until the time of the new orderвђќ (hebrews 9:10).
In his fulfillment of the law and prophets, jesus obtained our eternal salvation. No more were priests required to offer sacrifices and enter the holy place (hebrews 10:8–14). Jesus has done that for us, once and for all. By grace through faith, we are made right with god: вђњhe forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the crossвђќ (colossians 2:14).
There are some who argue that, since jesus did not вђњabolishвђќ the law, then the law is still in effect—and still binding on new testament christians. But paul is clear that the believer in christ is no longer under the law: вђњwe were held in custody under the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law became our guardian to lead us to christ, that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardianвђќ (galatians 3:23–25, BSB). We are not under the mosaic law but under вђњthe law of christвђќ (see galatians 6:2).
If the law is still binding on us today, then it has not yet accomplished its purpose—it has not yet been fulfilled. If the law, as a legal system, is still binding on us today, then jesus was wrong in claiming to fulfill it and his sacrifice on the cross was insufficient to save. Thank god, jesus fulfilled the whole law and now grants us his righteousness as a free gift. Вђњknow that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in jesus christ. So we, too, have put our faith in christ jesus that we may be justified by faith in christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justifiedвђќ (galatians 2:16).
What does it mean to take the lordвђ™s name in vain?
Question: "what does it mean to take the lordвђ™s name in vain?"
Answer: although many people believe taking the lordвђ™s name in vain refers to using the lordвђ™s name as a swear word, there is much more involved with a vain use of godвђ™s name. To understand the severity of taking the lordвђ™s name in vain, we must first see the lordвђ™s name from his perspective as outlined in scripture. The god of israel was known by many names and titles, but the concept embodied in godвђ™s name plays an important and unique role in the bible. Godвђ™s nature and attributes, the totality of his being, and especially his glory are reflected in his name (psalm 8:1). Psalm 111:9 tells us his name is вђњholy and awesome,вђќ and the lordвђ™s prayer begins by addressing god with the phrase вђњhallowed be your nameвђќ (matthew 6:9), an indication that a reverence for god and his name should be foremost in our prayers. Too often we barge into godвђ™s presence with presumptuous вђњto-do listsвђќ for him, without being mindful of his holiness, his awesomeness, and the vast chasm that separates our nature from his. That we are even allowed to come before his throne is due only to his gracious, merciful love for his own (hebrews 4:16). We must never take that grace for granted.
Because of the greatness of the name of god, any use of godвђ™s name that brings dishonor on him or on his character is taking his name in vain. The third of the ten commandments forbids taking or using the lordвђ™s name in an irreverent manner because that would indicate a lack of respect for god himself. A person who misuses godвђ™s name will not be held вђњguiltlessвђќ by the lord (exodus 20:7). In the old testament, bringing dishonor on godвђ™s name was done by failing to perform an oath or vow taken in his name (leviticus 19:12). The man who used godвђ™s name to legitimize his oath, and then broke his promise, would indicate his lack of reverence for god as well as a lack of fear of his holy retribution. It was essentially the same as denying godвђ™s existence. For believers, however, there is no need to use godвђ™s name to legitimize an oath as we are not to take oaths in the first place, letting our вђњyes be yesвђќ and our вђњno be noвђќ (matthew 5:33-37).
There is a larger sense in which people today take the lordвђ™s name in vain. Those who name the name of christ, who pray in his name, and who take his name as part of their identity, but who deliberately and continually disobey his commands, are taking his name in vain. Jesus christ has been given the name above all names, at which every knee shall bow (philippians 2:9-10), and when we take the name вђњchristianвђќ upon ourselves, we must do so with an understanding of all that signifies. If we profess to be christians, but act, think, and speak in a worldly or profane manner, we take his name in vain. When we misrepresent christ, either intentionally or through ignorance of the christian faith as proclaimed in scripture, we take the lordвђ™s name in vain. When we say we love him, but do not do what he commands (luke 6:46), we take his name in vain and are possibly identifying ourselves to be among those to whom christ will say, вђњi never knew you. Away from meвђќ in the day of judgment (matthew 7:21-23).
The name of the lord is holy, as he is holy. The name of the lord is a representation of his glory, his majesty, and his supreme deity. We are to esteem and honor his name as we revere and glorify god himself. To do any less is to take his name in vain.

What does it mean if you have shaky hands?
Tremors in the hands can occur without a cause or as a symptom of an underlying condition. Shaky hands is not a life-threatening symptom, but it can have an impact on daily activities.
Most people have a slight tremor in the hands, and it may be especially noticeable when holding the hands straight out in front of the body.
Tremors range in severity, and several conditions can cause more noticeable shaking.
In this article, we explore common causes of hand tremors and their treatments.
Share on pinterest uncontrolled muscle movement characterizes hand tremors.
A tremor is a common movement disorder. An involuntary, rhythmic muscle contraction causes the shaking. Tremors are most common in the hands, but they can also occur in the arms, head, vocal cords, torso, and legs.
Tremors can be intermittent, happening every so often, or constant. Sometimes tremors develop on their own, and other times they signal an underlying health issue.
Shaky hands may lead to difficulty writing and drawing. A person may also have trouble holding and using tools and utensils, such as cutlery.
There are more than 20 types of tremor, but most fall into two categories:
Resting tremors: these occur when the muscles are relaxed, such as when the hands are resting on the lap.
Action tremors: the majority of tremors are action tremors. They happen when the muscles are contracted because of voluntary movement.
Issues affecting the brain are usually responsible for tremors.
In some cases, the cause is unknown, but tremors often result from neurological conditions, movement disorders, or other health problems.
Neurological conditions
Some neurological conditions that can cause shaky hands include:
- Multiple sclerosis (MS): many people with MS experience some degree of tremor. This often develops when the disease damages areas in the pathways of the central nervous system that control movement.
- Stroke: an ischemic stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery, preventing blood from reaching the brain. This can cause lasting damage to neurological pathways and lead to tremors.
- Traumatic brain injury: physical injury to the brain can also damage nerves that play a role in coordinating movement. Hand tremors may occur when an injury affects certain nerves.
- Parkinson’s disease: more than 25 percent of people with parkinson’s disease have a related action tremor, as well as a more common resting tremor in one or both hands. Tremors usually begin on one side of the body, and they may spread to the other side. Shaking may become more pronounced during periods of stress or strong emotion.
Movement disorders
The following are examples of movement disorders that can cause hand tremors:
- Essential tremor: this is among the most common movement disorders, and the cause is unknown. The tremor usually affects both sides of the body, but it may be more noticeable in the dominant hand. It tends to occur when the person is moving as well as when standing still. Genetics may be responsible for around half of the cases of essential tremor.
- Dystonic tremor: in a person with dystonia, the brain sends incorrect messages, resulting in overactive muscles, abnormal postures, and sustained undesired movements. Young adults and those in middle age are most likely to develop dystonic tremors, which can occur in any muscle.
The following health issues can also cause shaky hands:
- Psychiatric conditions, such as depression or post-traumatic stress disorder
- Inherited degenerative disorders, such as hereditary ataxia or fragile X syndrome
- Alcohol abuse or withdrawal
- Mercury poisoning
- Hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid
- Liver or kidney failure
- Anxiety or panic
Certain drugs can also cause hand tremors, such as:
- Some asthma medicines
- Amphetamines
- Caffeine
- Corticosteroids
- Medicines used to treat certain psychiatric and neurological disorders
